anytime rock'n rolls!

By

You go to your friends house for dinner, walk in the door, and are enveloped by the warm sweet smell of rolls. Happy memories of past occasions with family and friends are carried on that single delicate scent. Now you want to re-create it on your own. Here is a simple and delicious recipe that is forgiving enough for a beginner and satisfying enough for even the most veteran baker.

Rolls are so incredibly versatile; they can go with any meal. Whether it be oven toasted with jelly for breakfast, dipped in a stew for dinner, or even as a dessert spread with honey butter and cinnamon. They are also very convenient. Rolls can be made ahead of time and frozen so all you have to do when you need them is thaw and warm. So here is a wonderful recipe to start with.

4½ tsp. yeast

½ c. water

2 c. milk

6 tbs. butter

2 eggs

¼ c. sugar

1 ½ tsp. salt

7 – 7 ½ c. flour (I use half white & half wheat)

1. Melt butter and set aside

2.warm milk and water together

3.dissolve sugar in warm milk/water mixture

4.add yeast and let stand for 5 min.

5.add butter, eggs, salt and 3 cups of flour. Mix until smooth

6.gradually add enough of the remaining flour to form a soft dough

7.turn onto a floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic. About 5 min. (dough will be a little sticky)

8.place into a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in warm place until doubled in bulk. About an hour

9.punch down dough and divide into rolls. Cover and let rise again for about 30 min.

10.bake at 350 degrees for about 20 min. or until golden brown

11.ENJOY! And try not to burn yourself (it’s hard to let these cool for any length of time haha)

Nothing like the smell of home baked bread alright.I remember coming home from school as a kid and being hit by that oh so enticing waft of fresh baked rolls my mother had just made - my mouth is watering at the mere thought of it. Must give this a go :-)
